You may have heard the term "pet leveler" or the phrase "I'm pet leveling" before. What does it mean?
Pet leveling is a type of combat where the character earns their pet XP as fast as possible. Since pets gain XP depending on the amount of time spent in combat, combats must be prolonged to earn the pet the maximum amount of XP possible in a given amount of time. To prolong combats, characters will unequip their weapon and attack monsters barehanded. Typically, the chosen monster type will be the one that does the least damage to the character, has a high defense, and high health regeneration speed. The monster must also have a green, white, yellow, or red-colored name. Monsters with blue-names will not earn your pet XP.
~Explained later- pets gain 1 exp every 3 seconds of successful combat, regardless of mob level/color name (except for blue).
Knights are most often used as pet levelers because of their passive skills that allow them to regenerate health very quickly. If they can regenerate health faster than a monster can damage them, then they do not have to worry about dying while pet leveling. Unfortunately for Knights, they have a high physical attack and will end up eventually killing most monsters barehanded.
~My knight has never killed anything bare handed... perhaps you have too many ATK based bloodseals, or fighting too low of level mob.
Titans and Rogues suffer from the same high physical attack issue that Knights do, but their defense and health regeneration speeds are not as high as a Knight's so they risk dying before their monster does. Healers, Mages, and Sorcerers use physical attacks when their weapons are unequipped, so they do not do much damage to monsters. But these three classes have even lower defense and worse health regeneration speeds, so to be efficient pet levelers they need to either have highly upgraded armor or high evasion stats. Or both.
~Where did you get your information? Knights have low ATK. That's why they are prime for this. Also titans defense is GREATER then a knights, just compare the armor (the 100Def you get is the same as the 100Def they get at level 15) Their attack is only higher when they use STR points. Titans do make decent pet levelers-now that HP Mastery actually gives + recovery speed, however still not as much as Knights.
Pet leveling is perfectly legal and will not get you banned as long as you are not using any macro, you can hit the monster, the monster can hit you back. If you are found attacking a monster but not receiving any hits back from it, you may be banned for exploiting. Being hit by a monster doesn't necessarily mean that you take damage. A hit can be either damage or a miss. If you have high evasion, most monsters will constantly miss you--but the fact that the little "Miss..." sign keeps coming up shows that they are hitting you. To make sure that your chosen monster can hit you, you need to be on level ground. Monsters have trouble attacking people on slopes.
~Not only can no macros be used, no automated click programs or third party aid of ANY sort is tolerated with ANY of AeriaGames hosted games. Even a text generator is permanently bannable. If you have no idea what these are, good, keep it that way. Do not download them, a random scan showing you have the program can yield an automated permanent ban.
TIP:
*This tip may be considered an exploit and should not be used until GMs have reviewed it and discussed it, DO NOT post it until we find out. The game was not meant to function this way, therefore the tip posted has been removed until we find out if it is OK to do*
IMPORTANT: Many people make a sport of harassing pet levelers and killing their monsters. This can be a very unwise move because not only do many pet levelers take down the names of harassers and refuse to help them out in any way in the future (like not selling them the mounts they need), but if the pet leveler gets sufficient proof the harasser may be banned. Also, the more difficult people make it for a pet leveler to level a pet, the fewer pets there are on the market, and the higher prices rise.
~This information is not 100% accurate. Kill stealing or luring an AFK player to their doom is not a bannable situation. Even summoning Baal or Death Knight upon them is not, in fact it is quite hilarious when you've had a rough day. The only way this becomes bannable is if you continually do it, hourly, daily, weekly, etc. Then it is "harassment" and not "kill stealing, or luring". Harassment of any type, verbal or physical should be screenshotted and reported immediately , it is not tolerated and is not funny, and IS permanently bannable.
The market has had no effect with how many pets are out there, in fact, prices continually go up, even when more and more AFK pet levelers are built -- reason: Greed. More pet levelers can mean more pets, but this does not mean prices will go down, in fact, the opposite has occurred on every single server.
Pet leveler builds -
Here I (Eatrice) list two pet leveling builds I have used and have worked in my experience.
Level 18 Knight:
- All stat points in Dexterity
- Full +4 Lioncub set (Levels 20-22)
- Minimum +4 Dragon Shield (Level 21)
- Level 5 Candid Fencing
- Put all technical points in Defense
- Pet level on: Drakes, Harpies (these will die eventually so make sure to check back)
- IMPORTANT (any help here would be great): I am not sure whether or not there is a required "minimum" level pet for this build, meaning, the lowest level the pet could be in order for it to have good enough buffs to keep the pet leveler alive. I am very sorry for any trouble this may cause.
~ Notice: 2 points in HP can be a significant difference if your armor is lacking, it is roughly 50 HP, if the mob is doing 20, that is 3 smacks (from the time it starts with your auto recovery from passives going) which can mean the difference from dying or successfully pet leveling. After 2 the bonus drops to 5 HP/point for a while and is not really worth it.
Level 22 Knight:
- All stat points in Dexterity (for the evasion boost) or Constitution (for the higher hp total)
- Full +4 Radiant set (Levels 25-27)
- Minimum +4 Royal Shield (Level 25)
- Level 5 Candid Fencing
- Level 5 Vitality Control
- Put all technical points in Defense
- Pet level on: Treants
- IMPORTANT (any help here would be great): Again, I am not sure whether or not there is a required "minimum" level pet for this build, meaning, the lowest level the pet could be in order for it to have good enough buffs to keep the pet leveler alive. I am sorry for any trouble this may cause.
- Any level will do to a certain degree, mine is lvl26 and works well. You may have to tweak armor a bit but easier than you think. My lvl 26 knight has on +2 Radiant Helm, +3 Radiant Leggings, and an Honour Shield. I took off all other stuff due to attack and hit bloodseal +'s.
- Pay attention to your damage done. At this time my knight is doing 23 damage to Treant and it is still a little too high. It takes him about 4 hours to slap the Treant to death. You need to be at or under 22 damage to last all night or a whole work shift.
The part below is Speculation at best, and has no real evidence to back up this claim, the missing part you should ignore but the rest of the information is valid: ~My 37 pet leveling knight would AFK on Gnolls with even a level 6 pet pure def and +6/+7 armor without troubles. I would not recommend lower then 10th level pet anymore however, do to the massive evasion change. Also- reseal your armor until it has Close Range Physical evasion AND Evasion (and anything else, as long as it doesn't add to Attack or Damage)
Getting a red name or overloading your Knight (or any class for that matter) will NOT help your pet leveling. In fact.. it worsens it.
Here is why:
Red names lose ATK (damage) and Dex (Hit rate) you have to be hitting a monster for your pet to gain exp. If you "miss" it slows down the exp. Never missing and continually AFK pet leveling yields I believe 1,200 Pet Exp MAX per hour. No one can exceed this without Pet Experience pills, Pet exp events, or other boosts, Simply because a pet gains roughly 1 exp every 3 seconds of successful combat.
So by lowering your hit chance, you actually slow down your pet's exp, only marginally at first, but the farther you go, the more you miss, and the less your pet will gain.
The Absolute best, most worthwhile and most productive AFK pet levelers are level 37 ish. They have full dex build +6 armor (which is now 100% do-able without ever breaking) full defense/evasion blood seals, and can AFK indefinitely on Gnolls (or other such monsters) to get their pets up to 37-38 for "perfect mounts" Yes this takes a bit more work, as you will need more SP for defense skills, and have to be CAREFUL what skills you pick, as any ATK bonus will mess this up. Also- DO NOT PICK A SECOND CLASS. Even a Templar gains some 50 ATK bonus instantly for being second class. Remain a Knight.
Thence Knights can go AFK 6-8 hours at a time, only returning to feed the pet. This means you can get a full nights sleep ^_^
