Punishable activities and how to report themThis is a featured page

Following is a list of most of the "illegal"activities that will get you silenced in or banned from the game. Read carefully, wouldn't want you to get in trouble for any of them!

Simple stuff
Avoiding the filter -
Avoiding the auto-chat-filter in order to curse or harass will get you silenced, at least. Silences may be temporary or permanent, it depends on the case. If the filter is extensively avoided, you will be banned.

There is a bit of a grey area with this rule because the filter blocks many words that are not bad. You may avoid the filter without penalty if you have to say something like "comp.uter" (pute is blocked) or "psyc.hology" (cholo is blocked). But you may not avoid it if it's catching you saying something like "f***."

The best way to not get blocked by the filter is to simply not type out words that aren't necessary. For example, curses are not necessary. If you are angry, curse at your computer. No need to take all that time and write it out for the rest of us--we don't care, and we will report you.

To report someone who is avoiding the filter in order to say something that is not helpful or unnecessary, all you have to do is take a screenshot. Remember to make sure that the incriminating evidence is actually in the textbox. Then post your screenshot in the Report Behavior part of the Last Chaos forums.

The Castle Siege scam -
The Castle Siege scam is a very simple one. What some dishonest merchants do is buy Merac Castle Siege items--usually the gems or stones--and sell them on the general market as being "rare accessories." They are usually priced somewhere between 100,000gold and 900,000gold, despite the fact that they can be bought from the Merac Castle Siege merchants for only 10,000gold.

If you see anyone selling Merac Castle Siege items for more than 3x their actual value, you may report them. To do so, take a screenshot of their shop. Make sure that your cursor is placed above the icon of the over-priced item so the price tag will show up in the screenshot. (If you don't have a price tag, then you don't have any evidence.) You may post your screenshot in the Report Behavior or the Hacks, Bots, Cheats, & Exploits part of the forum.

This scam is not necessarily bannable, but the GMs have stated that they will for sure close down the shop of the offending merchant. If the person repeatedly tries to pull this scam, well that's another matter.

If you fall for this scam, you are solely responsible. The GMs cannot help you get your gold or items back, since you did hit the "Confirm" button and therefore agreed to the purchase or trade. Sorry. Don't fall for it!

The pet scam:
Swapping out 31's for 1's -
This was formerly the most common type of pet scam, but now the colored pet scam is taking the lead.

In this particular type of scam, a player offers to sell a level 31 pet (usually unmounted) for a lower price than normal. Of course, this makes people jump on the offer. The scammer will open a trade window with your character and put in the level 31 pet to let you see it, then allow you to start putting your payment into your part of the trade window. They may or may not click the "Confirm" button, and may or may not left you finish inputting your payment. The scammer will cancel the scam and, if you ask, will apologize and claim it was an accidental cancel due to lag, forgetfulness, being bumped, hitting a key too hard, etc. They will then offer to trade with you again.

Sometimes they will repeat the actions described above three or more times before you can get to the actual trading. The last time the scammer opens a trade window with you, they will switch the level 31 pet with a level 1 pet of the same type. Because of your frustration at having the trade continue to be shut down on you, you are very likely to just put in your payment and quickly click the little buttons at the bottom of the window to complete the trade. The scammer counts on this to make their scam work.

To avoid falling for this, always check what you're getting! It doesn't hurt to take one more second and check the stats of the thing you want to trade for. Also, beware of anyone who seems to keep having "trading issues" and opens/closes the trade window repeatedly. If someone has to do this more than twice, refuse to trade with them anymore. An honest player should be able to get things correct the first time.

To turn in a pet scammer, your best bet is to record the entire trading process. Then post the video in the
Report Behavior or Hacks, Bots, Cheats, & Exploits part of the forum. If there is sufficient evidence, the scammer will be banned.

The pet scam: Claiming to sell a colored pet that is actually a plain one -
Like the pet scam mentioned above, the colored pet scam is also bannable. So what is the colored pet scam? It is the name given to the fraud of claiming to be selling a colored pet, but actually selling a normal-colored one.

Pets that have been colored with the Item Mall's Pet Coloring Crystals will still retain their original pet icon in the inventory and shop/trade windows. If an orange coloring crystal is used on a normal brown horse, the horse will turn orange, but the icon in your inventory window will still show that it is a brown horse. Because of this, people can easily claim to be selling a colored pet and you have no way to prove them a fake unless you actually buy the pet from them.

To avoid falling for this scam, do not buy colored pets from anyone you do not trust. If you feel that your pet simply must have an Item Mall-sold color, then you would be best off either buying the coloring crystal yourself with Aeria's AP, or find someone who is selling the Pet Coloring Crystal in their in-game shop so you can color your own pet.

If you are going to buy a colored pet from another player, be sure to record the entire transaction. That way, if it turns out the pet is just a plain-colored one, you will have proof to give to the GMs. You may post your video in the
Report Behavior part of the forum.

Accounts
Account selling and/or trading -
Account selling is bannable, no matter what kind of account it is or who is selling it. Anyone caught advertising their account as being for sale will immediately be banned. Anyone caught trying to purchase the account will also be banned. Why is it bannable? Because 99.9% of account sellers are scammers.

Punishable activities and how to report them - Last Chaos - Guides & InformationOn the right is an example of an account seller. As you can see, this one is advertising in-game that they are selling three different accounts with many valuable items and characters for only USD$30, or USD$10 each. An offer like that is obviously too good to be true. If you stop and think, you will realize that those level 31 mounts he mentioned cost approximately USD$28 each as it is--so with six of them, those three accounts are worth a good USD$168. And that's not even counting the characters and items. Talk about a scam!

Account sellers come in all shapes and sizes, all names and character types. Most account sellers are sponsored by gold sites that use their botted or stolen gold to buy the scammers nice equipment so they look reputable. Some account sellers are even former players whose accounts have been stolen by keyloggers that were put into the person's computer by gold or bot sites.

To report an account seller, all you must do is take a screenshot of their sales pitch and post your screenshot in the
Hacks, Bots, Cheats, & Exploits part of the forum. Do not edit the screenshot (that means don't cut out only the textbox and post it), just go ahead and post the full thing. Doing this shows that you did not edit the screenshot and, more importantly, you have nothing to hide.

I know it's hard to report someone who you see as a friend, but remember: all account selling is bannable. If your "friend" (stolen account, more like) is doing it, they need to be turned in.

Botting/Macro-usage
Macros in general -
A macro is a program that hits keys for you. Macros range from simple tape-on-key or coin-on-key setups to complex scripts that run in the background of other programs. All macro usage is bannable.

Downloading a macro or even looking at a site that provides macros is dangerous. Often, these sites will slip keyloggers into your computer. Keyloggers record your actions (like when you open programs and which ones) and keystrokes. Sites that provide macros specifically designed for Last Chaos will use a keylogger that activates when you open LC. It will report your keystrokes--that means your account name and password--to its master. That person can then use the information to steal your account.

Gold botting -
Gold botting is what someone is doing when they leave a bot running, controlling their character, while the person is away from their computer. Gold bots are usually turned on in a "safe" area full of monsters that are green-named to the player. The gold bot auto-targets anything in sight, attacks it, and picks up the gold--not items--once the monster has died. It then moves on.

To catch a gold bot, you will need to be able to record their actions. Turn on your video program and follow the suspected character around for a while. Be sure to make it obvious that they are only picking up gold. Also, try talking to the character. Say something like "Hi." Even if the person the character belongs to does not speak English, they most likely know to say "Hi" back.

If the character does not reply, I suggest killing all monsters in the immediate area. See if the character stands their waiting for the monsters to respawn, instead of running off to other ones that are in sight--but out of the bot's range. If you cannot kill the monsters fast enough, then just target and attack--but do not kill--the one closest to the character. If they attack it once finishing up with the last one, then they are a bot. All bots target the thing nearest to them and have no knowledge of the rule that says "no killstealing."

If you have a video of a gold botter, you may post it in the
Hacks, Bots, Cheats, & Exploits part of the forum.

Pet-leveling botting -
Pet-leveling in itself is not botting. Having a macro running while you have left your character to AFK pet-level is botting, and therefore bannable.

Pet-leveling bots are ones that, typically, auto-heal the character and auto-feed the pet every some-odd minutes. If you suspect someone of using a bot for pet-leveling, you should turn on your video program and sit to watch them for a bit. Look for the "heal bubbles" that appear around a character when they are using an HP potion. Count to see if they come at regular intervals. If the character is a healer, then keep a note of the times at which they self-heal. Again, see if they happen at regular intervals.

If you have recorded a video of someone you suspect of using a macro while pet-leveling, you may post your video in the
Hacks, Bots, Cheats, & Exploits part of the forum. If taking a video is too time-consuming for you, you may also mention your suspicions to a GM via the forum shoutbox or an email to Aeria. Be sure to include the suspect's character name, server, location, and the reason why you suspect them of botting (of course).

Speedhacking -

Speedhacking requires modifying the game client, which is very much against the rules and will get you banned in a snap. See this forum topic for examples of how to identify and report speedhackers in the Hacks, Bots, Cheats, & Exploits part of the forum..

Hacking accounts
Hacking someone else -
Hacking another player (if you get caught in the act or are caught admitting to it) will get you IP-banned. Period.

If you catch someone admitting to hacking the account they are on or hacking another player's account, you may report them by screenshotting the admittance. You may post your screenshot in the Hacks, Bots, Cheats, & Exploits part of the forum. While it may not be enough evidence to get the person banned, it will definitely get them put on the watchlist.

Having your account hacked -
If your account is hacked, first try to do a recover lost password. If the hacker has changed your account's email address, you will need to contact Aeria and provide them with the name of your hacked account; its original email address; as much information about the characters, items, and character statuses on the account as you can remember; and proof (screenshots) that those characters are yours. It's also a good idea to include an explanation of how you got hacked and who hacked you, if you know. Aeria can do IP checks to confirm that the account is/was indeed yours, then restore it to you by resetting the password and changing the email address back to the one you provide them with.

Impersonating a Game Master or other Aeria employee,
or a Game Sage or Moderator
Impersonation of any sort is bannable, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Impersonation of a "normal" player may be looked into, but impersonation of an Aeria employee or community volunteer will result in an immediate ban. Impersonators always ask for money, items, mounts, account information, emails, etc. That's how you know they're fakes.

Game Master impersonation -
Game Masters or other Aeria employees will never ask you for any in-game things or personal information. If they want your items or your account info, they already have access to it--no need to ask you to give it to them. Also, all Aeria employees with Last Chaos characters are in the guild called GameMaster (GameMasters if you're on Cariae). That's capital G, capital M.Some people have tried to fake being this guild before, so be careful.
Game Master impersonators often have names similar to those of a real Game Master, watch out. Check the spelling and capitalization carefully!

Community volunteer (Game Sage/Moderator) impersonation -
People impersonating community volunteers like Game Sages or Moderators are harder to spot. This is because only a few players seem to know who the Game Sages or Moderators actually are. Their characters are regular players just like yours, so they look just like you and have the same in-game powers that you do (which are none).

Game Sage glow
Game Sage glow accessory
If a person claims to be a Game Sage, you may ask them to display their Game Sage glow for you to prove themselves. All Game Sages have a special accessory that will cause their character to glow when it is equipped. No Game Sage will ever say no to being asked to put on their glow for the sake of proving their credibility.

If someone claims to be a Game Sage but refuses to display their glow for you, ignore them.
Many impersonators will give excuses saying that they lost their glow or it's on another character, but neither of these explanations are possible. The Game Sage glow accessory may be transferred between a Game Sage's characters via Bianca's warehouse, so there is no reason why a Game Sage should ever be without their glow. Furthermore, the glow may not be dropped or traded, so it can't possibly be "lost." It can only be given to or removed from a Game Sage's possession by a Game Master.

As for Moderators, they will never ask you for anything unreasonable, and never outside of a fair trade (that means that they won't ask you to just give them stuff for free, since that's not right). The only time a Moderator's character may say that they are a Moderator is when they are reporting someone. This is done to reassure the other players that things are under control.

A list of Game Master, Game Sage, and Moderator names can be found in this forum post. The Game Masters have the same names in-game and the Game Sages' in-game names are listed beside their forum ones. The in-game names of the Moderators are not given because Moderators are actually supposed to patrol the forums, not the games. But they do have the ability to call in a Game Master to help out with something in-game if needed.

To report an impersonator, you need to take a screenshot of the offending name (if it's similar to that of a real Game Master's) or their claims of being an Aeria employee/community volunteer. Post your screenshot in the
Report Behavior part of the forum.

DivataRoza Pet lvling 2 Jun 18 2009, 8:05 PM EDT by DivataRoza
Thread started: Jun 18 2009, 12:42 PM EDT  Watch
Hi,
I read something in a chat yesterday on a3 that the pet prices will now go up as the AFK pet lvling is now bannable.
I was in a hurry, so I could not follow the discussion, but noticed that pet prices really jumped in the last few days.
Can someone help with solid info on that?
Do you find this valuable?

Vindalanda A fake GS? 2 Jun 9 2009, 9:43 PM EDT by XDuckieX
Thread started: Feb 14 2009, 10:35 AM EST  Watch
I'v come from Azure. Here i came encountered the toon Airadella from the guild GameSages.

She was offering to facititate trade by holding items for people.

When asked to glimmer she refused for no reason.

When told her guilds name was misleading, she said GMOgreKing had set it up.

I see she is not on the list of LC GSs. (No screen shot sorry, as some of you will know i am not that tech minded.) I have posted this on the Aeria forum as well.
Do you find this valuable?
