Runes of ProtectionThis is a featured page

Runes of Protection are special items to help you with your upgrading. What do they do? They remove the chance that your weapon or armor will break. These runes are non-tradeable Item Mall-only items, so you need to either buy them yourself with AP or have a trusted friend gift them to you. Each Rune may only be used once.

IMPORTANT: Runes of Protection do not guarantee that your item will upgrade. They only guarantee that it will not break during an upgrade attempt. Each upgrade attempt takes one Rune.

Rune of Protection I
Rune of Protection IA Rune of Protection I may be used when upgrading any item that is between +3 and +10. It is recommended that you use Smelting Stones when upgrading with RoP I's.

Many people say they use Heaven Stones because they have a higher chance of success, however HS also have a chance of downgrading your item. Smelts do not. While Smelts have a 17% lower chance of success than HS, Smelts will not downgrade your item. They can only either succeed or fail. Normally, a failure with a Smelt will break your item (if it's above +3). But when using RoP I's, the failure result is changed from a "break" to a "no change." So, in the long run, you will probably have to use fewer RoP I's if you upgrade with Smelts. Why? Because you don't ever "lose ground" with Smelts. You can only go forward, or stay in the same place. That's more than you can say for HS.

These runes currently cost 499 AP, or USD$5.

Rune of Protection II
Rune of Protection IIA Rune of Protection II may be used when upgrading any item that is between +10 and +15. It is recommended that you use Heaven Stones when upgrading with RoP II's.

So, if you use Smelting Stones between +3 and +10, why switch to HS when going from +10 to +15? I think the item's description explains it best: "Failures can occur, item will not break but failure could reset [equipment] of any level back to +10." Now, notice it says "failure could." What it means is that if you get a "break" result, your equipment will be reset to +10 instead of completely blowing. This is a great thing! On the other hand, if you get a "degrade" result your equipment will also be reset to +10 instead of just going back -1.

Since "breaks" and "degrades" will reset your equipment from +11, +12, +13, or +14 back to only a +10, you want to use the smelt type that has the highest chance of success. Heaven Stones are the smelts that fit the bill. They have a 50% chance of success and a 50% chance of failure. When using an RoP II, you don't have to be concerned about theno change failure result. Getting it will cause your equipment to have "no change" just like it normally does.

These runes currently cost 699 AP, or USD$7.

I have just learned from GM staements, (Auzure server today at 2:45pm to 3:00pm, UK time, up to 200% HS Event.) this:

The chances of an item being lost is UNCHANGED, regardles of the increase in the % for getting a +1 from a HS!

This thread has been placed here as we were encouraged to use runes with HSs.

I really hope the cause of this information not being released until now is because Aeria have only just learned about it.

Wait..so, do Rune's of Protection permanently stop the equipment piece from being destroyed? Or must they be replaced with every single level of upgrade?
