Transmuter - Last Chaos - Guides & Information The Transmuter is an NPC that will turn plain pieces of equipment into normal smelting stones for you--for a price. There are two Transmuters. One is in Randol, Juno, just down the road from the Armor Trader. The other one is in Dratan City, Dratan, located slightly north of the Herbologist Trainer.

When you go to talk to a Transmuter, this window will open. Select option 1, "Transmute into Refining Stone," to get to the part where he'll actually transmute stuff for you.

Notice that he refers to the normal smelting stones as being "refining stones." This is what all the NPCs call the normal smelts, even though in you inventory they're just called "Smelting Stones."

Here is the next window. When this window opens, you inventory will also open up (if it's not already open). Choose a piece of equipment from your inventory to transmute and drag it into the little box.

Be aware that upgraded items will refuse to be put into this box because they cannot be transmuted. You also may not transmute knightmare armor or dragon weapons--even though those wilI allow you to put them into the box (and show a transmutation fee of 24gold).
Transmuter - Last Chaos - Guides & Information

As you can see, I have placed a pair of gloves in the little box. These are level 5 gloves, so they cost 73gold to turn into a smelting stone. The fee you must pay the Transmuter depends entirely on the level of equipment you are transmuting.

The level of equipment you transmute will determine the level of smelt you receive. These level 5 gloves will turn into a level 5 smelt, level 10 gloves would turn into a level 10 smelt, level 15 gloves would turn into a level 15 smelt, and so on. Also, the number of smelts you receive will depend on the type of equipment you choose to transmute. The two different transmutation results are listed below.
Transmuter - Last Chaos - Guides & Information

Transmuter - Last Chaos - Guides & Information You will receive this message when you transmute sheilds, gloves, shirts, pants, helms, or boots. All armor turns into one smelting stone. Transmuter - Last Chaos - Guides & Information You will receive this message when you transmute a weapon. All weapons turn into two smelting stones.

You may transmute armor or weapons from any class to use on your own equipment. Once items are transmuted, their former class no longer matters. So, for example, a Healer could use smelts from a Titan axe on her armor.

Here's a table showing the amount of gold it costs to transmute equipment pieces of each level:

Where you listed the items that gives you one smelting stone adter transmuting add the shields too, because those are armors too (even if those are only for knights) and gives one smelt after transmuting.
